How often to service an aircond in Malaysia

Malaysia does not give an aircond a dry season to rest in. The coil stays damp, dust sticks, and a unit that was icy in January can feel tired by April.

A practical interval

For a wall-mounted unit in a home that runs evenings and nights, a chemical wash every three to four months is the interval that keeps airflow honest. A basic filter clean in between helps, but it does not reach the coil.

If the unit runs all day — a home office, a shop, a clinic — book closer to every two or three months. Cassette and fan-coil units in offices collect more because they move more air. They also cost more to wash, which is already reflected in the cassette and FCU rates.

Signs you waited too long

Weak airflow with the fan on high. A sour or dusty smell in the first minute. Water along the wall under the unit. The compressor outside never seems to switch off. Any one of those is a reason to book now rather than at the next round number on the calendar.

What you are paying for

Basic service is RM 90 for one unit, RM 80 each for two, and RM 70 each for three or more. It suits a unit that was washed recently. Chemical service is the full indoor wash: RM 120 for one wall unit, RM 100 each for two, and RM 90 each from the third unit onward. Sending three units in one visit is almost always the better booking.
