Wall-mounted or cassette: which install fits the room

ASR Aircon service and repair · 2 September 2026 · 1 min read

Most homes in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor want a wall-mounted split. Offices, shops, and some condos with a proper ceiling void are better with a cassette. The install price is different because the work is different.

Wall-mounted

A 1HP unit suits a bedroom. A 1.5HP unit is the usual choice for a living hall, though a long room or a west-facing glass wall can need more than horsepower — it needs the indoor unit placed where the air actually travels.

Our wall-mounted installation for 1HP and 1.5HP is RM 250 on a standard pipe run. That includes mounting, connection, vacuum, and commissioning. Extra copper, a long trunking run, or a core that has to cross a beam is quoted after we see the wall.

Cassette

A cassette sits in the ceiling and throws air four ways, which is why open offices like them. They need void space, a drain path, and a longer service, so installation starts at RM 400. Chemical service later is also higher: RM 230 for one unit, stepping down when several are done together.

If the ceiling has no void, a cassette is the wrong recommendation and we will say so.

Before you buy the unit

Check the outdoor location. A compressor boxed in on a utility ledge with no airflow will run hot and fail early, and no install price can fix that. Send the room size, a photo of the wall or ceiling, and the outdoor spot. We will tell you whether the standard rate applies or what the extra piping will add.
